CJAD Heroes of the Month Nathalie Richard and Caroline Elias
“Compassion, acceptance and LOVE is the cure to most of the issues that plague this world.”― Yvonne Pierre, The Day My Soul Cried: A Memoir
Nathalie Richard and Caroline Elias are parents of children with physical disabilities. After years of dealing with the obstacles that come with raising special needs children, they decided to help other parents in the same situation by sharing their journey.
Richard chose to use her knowledge by creating L’Étoile de Pacho. The program is completely free of charge and allows Montreal parents of children with special needs access to a network of resources.
She, along with L’Étoile de Pacho’s Coordinator, Caroline Elias, pool together resources to provide an option out of the isolation that many parents feel after their child receives a diagnosis.
Through a matching service, they support parents by facilitating meetings with other families in similar situations, they organize support groups and offer financial advice, among other services. All of their services are free as they realize the financial constraints affected families are under.
Both are committed to breaking the isolation that parents of children with multiple physical disabilities have, knowing from their own experience that there is no better friend than one that truly understands the experience you are going through.
