The professor at Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business took a small idea and turned it into something more. He is truly an ideal story to inspire a whole new year of CJAD Heroes.

Like many of us, he had an idea that could help his community, but, unlike many of us, he actually took action and his small little idea has turned into years of community service.

It all started when one of his students suggested the class have a Christmas party, that’s when Mr. Pearce said he would only take part if someone would benefit from the party … and so was born: Christmas for a Cause.

Now in its 14th year, the annual Christmas party has become the culmination of various fundraising efforts that go on throughout the year. New students continue the tradition and those who’ve graduated contribute to the cause.

Between the annual food, toy and clothing drives, there are now several dozen underprivileged families that benefit from a small initiative that started over a decade ago.

A driving force behind the push to continue the project, and make it bigger every year, has been a little poem one of his own teachers made the class recite every morning:

Good, better, best

Never let it rest

Until your good is better

And your better best.

The lives we touch would tremendously benefit if all of us took a small bit of inspiration from this poem and this story.

“People will go for the ride with you if they believe what you believe.” –Brent Pearce
